AMC3 2009

Welcome to the second year of the Appellate Moot Court Collegiate Challenge.

AMC3 is a groundbreaking program that fills a gap between moot court in law school and successful mock trial programs for high school and college students. Participation is limited to undergraduates.

Highlights of the plan:

  • Teams will presumably have four members each, but the rules allow for teams to have two to five members.
  • Each attorney will also sit on the bench for at least one hearing, asking questions of the teams arguing the case in that round.
  • Teams will be able to watch each other's arguments. [In law school, teams argue in private so they can't gain competitive advantage from seeing future opponents.] We are trying to promote cross-pollination of skills and ideas. This policy will be reviewed after this year.
  • A Jury of Review, which includes lawyers, faculty and college administrators, will provide feedback to each team after each round. The best teams and lawyers will also win awards.
  • The competition will consist of three rounds.

TISL and its AMC3 partners are committed to developing a high-quality program that provides new opportunities to undergraduates interested in the law. In combination with the Tennessee Intercollegiate Supreme Court, students have a chance to learn about and experiencepreviously inaccessible parts of the judicial system.

We welcome suggestions and participation.
